Why I HATE Discover

I know, hate is a pretty strong word. It's just that the people at Discover have pushed me past my breaking point. We have this old card from 3 years ago that we never use. We got the card for the free iPod promotion (I know, we are terrible people). We had no intention of using the card on a regular basis. I just never got around to canceling it. Well, for the past 6 months or so, Discover people have been calling and bugging the crap out of me to use the card again. At first I was polite, telling them we were no longer using the card and that they should just cancel it. They tried to offer me better and better rewards to entice me back. I didn't take the bait. I told them to quit calling me. After about the 10th call, I started to get REALLY pissed. Each time they would call, I would tell them in a not-so-nice way that I was sick of them calling me and to take me off of their call list immediately as I was upset at their incessant calls. It didn't work, they kept calling. Remember, I don't owe these people money - they are simply desperate for us to start using the card again. I got to the point where I would just yell "You are harassing me! Quit calling!" and hang up (really mature, I know).

They called twice today. After that, I finally called the customer service line myself, attempting to cancel the card. The woman I spoke to kept me on the phone for 15 minutes trying to entice me back. Every time she would try to give me another "deal" I'd say "NO! There is NOTHING you can say that will make me want to keep this card. PLEASE CANCEL IT!". That didn't work. She kept going and going and going. I had to literally fight with this woman to cancel my card. My blood pressure was sky high when it was all over.

The only other thing worse than this was when I tried to cancel AOL. That took 1.5 HOURS on the phone with the company telling them over and over that I just wanted to cancel. I was in tears at the end of it. This should be illegal.

I agree. I wonder if you can call the better business bureau? I wonder if you can also, make a harassment report with the police? It sounds extreme, but THEY were being extreme. I completely agree with you, it SHOULD be illegal. boo to that. Now, go hug and kiss your baby and get the BP down!

Yup, nothing is free, at least not in the credit world.
I'll bet you wished you had paid full price for that I-pod.
AOL is probably the worst. I remember years ago it took me forever to cancel that service.

I hate credit cards in general!!! We finally paid off our Citibank card and we will never use it again. These companies were bailed out by us the taxpayers and then they have the nerve to jack up the interest rates even on customers that pay their bill faithfully every month. Like my grandmother used to say:"My pressure is going up!"

Oooh, that's awful. I've had one similar experience -- a Com*cast "customer service" rep actually screamed at me when I cacelled my service with them. Then he had the nerve to tell me I was "taking an attitude" with him. Oh, you betcha. That's what you get for screaming at me. After he told me it would be weeks before he had someone available to disconnect my service (when they were advertising next-day installations on TV!!), I hung up on him and called back to talk to someone else and complain.

I have had that same experience with companies. It is frustrating. They should not be able to harass people!
