On Thursday, Lil and I made a surprise trip to visit my mom for a few days. Unfortunately, Lily got her first ever ear infection and had a high temperature (a little over 103). At first the Dr. thought it was just teething, then since it was so high and staying up, we took her to urgent care and they diagnosed the infection. Poor girl. She is now on her first ever antibiotic.
On Saturday we had some friends over to play poker. For some reason in this shot, no one is holding their cards.
Notice smug Mr. Money Bags (aka Jeremy) to the left.
And since I pretty much always have to include a photo of Lily, here is one of her in one of her usual spots, standing by the kitchen island playing with the onions. She is infatuated with them and has been since she could first stand up to touch them. I think she likes the crinkly noise of the skins.
... but I just had to share these adorable photos from their wedding. Mom is in the process of converting a bunch of old family slides to digital and found these. Aren't my parents just the cutest ever?
The look on my aunt's face in that top one is almost Awkward Family Photos worthy. Awesome.
Sorry mom. This is what happens when you send me things. They might end up on the internet.
Yesterday you turned 9 moths old. If there was a theme for this month of your life, I believe it would be "Exploration". You are on the move and checking out everything. You have mastered crawling and pulling yourself up onto things. You have started letting go for a few seconds while standing, but as soon as you realize you are standing by yourself, you get a worried look and grab the nearest support. You love to lead us around with us holding your hands still, but now you can do it with one hand. You are fascinated with EVERYTHING you touch. I love to watch how intensely you study everyday objects that are so common to us, yet are new and full of wonder for you. It makes me see things in a completely different way.
Things I want to remember about this time in your life:
Your 2nd tooth is just starting to pop through the gums. You have started to say "aba aba" which I take to be mama, but you don't associate it with me yet. You really like playing in the sink and splashing everywhere. At bath time, sometimes I feel like we get wetter than you do. You are becoming more and more cuddly and climb into our laps more, which completely melts mine and your daddy's hearts. You are getting a little better about "petting" the pets and not as much "grabbing". There is still a fair share of hair removal when you are done, though. When daddy opens the coop door and you see a chicken, you scream, terrified! You are going through a funny stage where if we are in a crowd of people and someone looks directly at you, you cry. You've started using a sippy cup and seem to like the independence of it. You've started eating more crunchy solid foods like teething biscuits and puffs which you really like. You have been giving kisses for awhile now, but you've recently switched to only giving daddy kisses. When I ask for one, you blow raspberries at me. Nice!
Daddy is really excited that you have decided to take up cat fishing. Soon you'll be "rippin lips" with him on lake Monroe. See video below.
Sorry this post is late! We got together with our adoption support group for dinner last night and time got away from me.
I am happy to announce that the random generator picked the number 25 which is the comment left by Kristin! Thanks so much to Kristin and all the rest who left such wonderful comments reminding me that there really is life out there! It has been so fun for me to learn a little more about all of you!
So, KRISTIN, please email your home address to brookcorey@gmail.com so I can send little Mr. Birdie and some chocolates your way!
I eat instant oatmeal almost every single day at work. It is a morning ritual, I heat it up in the microwave and eat it while going through my email. I much prefer slow cook oats, but I don't have time for that at work (obviously). I get in ruts with my instant oatmeal - I'll go for months and months of Raison Date Walnut and then one day switch to something else and eat that day after day. Right now, I'm on a Apple Cinnamon Lower Sugar variety kick.
I came across this recipe on the Vegan Lunchbox Blog. This would be much healthier since I would control everything in it. I can't wait to try it!
We went up to Wisconsin by way of Illinois this weekend, to pick up some of my grandpa's furniture. Luckily my parents helped us out by watching Lil and driving over to help us unload the goods. We are happy recipients of a lovely bedroom set, recliner, and a few end tables.
Corey and I passed the time on the long drive by listening to Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover" and "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Seboldon my iPod. We're not finished with the Lovely Bones yet, so please don't give anything away!
While corey and I were moving our clothes into our new dressers, Lily was in her crib. She ended up bonking her face on the side of it, fattening her lip and shedding a few drops of blood in the process. It was surely more traumatic for mom and dad than it was for the girl. She now has that pouty look that all the famous actresses pay big money for.
Here is the little lady enjoying a nice teething biscuit and some water. Doesn't take much to make her happy.
Just your typical Indiana girl who loves her kid, her husband, photography, the great outdoors, cooking and crafting (knitting, spinning, sewing and pretty much anything else old ladies do). These are my ramblings.
