A few weeks ago, while boating with friends, Lily found a grasshopper floating in the water in the middle of the lake. We were tubing and Lily held on to that little grasshopper for most of the afternoon. She dunked it and found it again, and let it ride on her finger or shoulder as she floated on her little tube in the water. She even brought it all the way home and let it go in the yard.
This past Friday and Saturday we had a garage sale at the new studio and Corey found a Katydid. That katydid became Lily's pet for the next 2 hours. She carried it everywhere and showed it to every customer who would not run away screaming. She asked them to pet it, but only a few customers took her up on that offer. I could not believe it, but she never hurt that little thing. I also find it strange is that these insects do not escape. They have wings, yet they never try to fly away. I swear, they know she is a gentle little soul and don't mind her handling them. I don't know any other way to explain it. I finally told her the bug needed to rest and put it up on a tree out of reach. She was very sad to have to say goodbye to it.

Love it! We need more bug loving girls in this world!
She's a very special kiddo...but I may be a little biased.
Her Mom & Dad have had something to do with it also.
Honest to goodness, that child is a wonder. I love the shot of her smile as he crawls to her back. I also think your dad's right. =}
Finally able to figure out how to leave a comment. Lily is special; very curious kid.
